Lesson 1

“And take heed, lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you feel driven to worship them and serve them, which the Lord your God has given to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage.” Deuteronomy 4:19 NKJV

This is the Word of God. The Lord created the celestial bodies not to be worshiped but as our heritage! If I am given an inheritance, I want to know what it is, what it’s worth, and how to use it! This is our Inheritance! Let’s check it out.

The word heritage, according to The Webster Dictionary, is an inherited lot or portion, something that comes to a person by reason of birth. When we were born again in Christ, we became a Child of the King and as such have a huge inheritance of all kinds of blessings and gifts. According to Deuteronomy 4, part of our birthright is the very cosmos itself! Think of it; the sun, moon and all the celestial bodies are our heritage.

In the natural, God created the celestial bodies to perform vital life giving functions for this planet. According to NASA, the Sun is a star, and without its intense energy there would be no life on Earth. The plant life and agriculture that feeds the world’s populations could not grow. The Sun creates heat and warmth without which we would plunge into darkness and freeze to death. The moon makes Earth a more livable planet by moderating its wobble on its axis, which leads to a relatively stable climate, and creates the tidal rhythm of our oceans. (NASA.gov)

The planets serve important functions that our earth needs to for perfect balance. But believe it or not, God also created them to not only benefit us in those ways, but also as a weapon of war to use against our enemies. Hezekiah, Joshua, Deborah, and Barak experienced and moved in the power of this truth. Look in Isaiah 38:7, “This is the Lord’s sign to you that the Lord will do what he has promised: ‘I will make the shadow cast by the sun go back the ten steps it has gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.’ So the sunlight went back the ten steps it had gone down.” This is a great example of God using the cosmos for His purposes. The sundial went back 10 steps and Hezekiah’s enemies were destroyed because he now had time to prepare for the attack!

Joshua had so much faith in this truth he even commanded the sun to stand still. Joshua 10 recounts that story. We have all heard it a thousand times, but may never have truly understood what it was that was actually happening. Joshua and the people of Israel activated into this promise, experiencing some of the biggest miracles in history, and they witnessed major defeats of their enemies.

“Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Isaiah 40:26-29

God is calling the stars an army. Army’s fight, and they are fighting for us! Let that sink in for a second.

We are taking back what Satan has stolen, and reclaiming our inheritance. “Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name.” Isaiah 40:26-29

More next week, and know you’re blessed this new year! Big love K.S.
