The psalmist said, “Lord, heal my soul for I have sinned against thee.” (Psalms 41:4)
We sin in many ways. Maybe our sin is substance abuse, gossiping, pornography or even yelling and screaming at peeps. Then we try to break out of it but we can’t. It is so difficult because the sin has wounded us and now we are in a “Paul moment”.
Paul said, (paraphrasing) I do the thing I don’t want to do because of the sin nature fixed and operating in my soul. We’re being controlled by the wounds inside coming from trauma or when we sinned or when someone sinned against us. Be real, everyone does it. We sometimes do things that seem beyond our control.
When your soul is healed, it’s much easier to walk in holiness and righteousness. Jesus Christ is our righteousness. You are righteous because of Him but He still wants your behavior to match what He’s done for you. When your healing begins, you will find it’s much easier to control your emotions. It is much easier not to return to pornography or alcohol abuse or cigarettes or swearing or whatever bad habit you have. You’ll be healed and no longer controlled by the junk in your trunk!
The body of Christ will become the spotless bride of Christ. Your spirit is already spotless. Once your soul catches up to it, you will walk like your spirit man walks.
Wounds in your soul can affect and control every part of your soul, including your mind, your will and your emotions. In Second Corinthians 10, verse 4, it says, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
This Scripture is about the mind. Your mind is part of your soul. Paul is telling you strongholds build up in your mind and cause you to think wrong thoughts, maybe even dangerous harmful thoughts. In this same verse, God promises us He has weapons, weapons that are not carnal, weapons that are not based on our own strength and our own ability, but supernatural weapons. Mighty weapons, the bible says. These weapons are specifically made for throwing down the strongholds in your mind.
That verse is famous. You may have it memorized and you may quote it daily. Consider the nature of those mighty weapons. They are weapons that heal your soul because when your soul is healed, strongholds in your mind are healed. Is there proof of that? Yes, right in this scripture. It says, “For the weapons of our warfare are mighty, through God to the pulling down of strongholds.”
In your Strong’s Concordance you can look up that word “mighty.” Here is what you will find: “Mighty” means, “strong in soul.” Strong in soul. Those mighty weapons make your soul strong. That’s how you cast down strongholds in your mind.
Now, consider the verse in this way: For the weapons of (my) warfare are not carnal but (strong in soul) through God to the pulling down of (my soul wounds), casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity (my) every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
Allow Jesus to make your soul strong. Pursue healing of your soul from the wounds controlling your thinking.
This is where we will pick up next week. K.S
